Introduction

The Shadan Degree College for Women was started by the society in the year 1988 to fulfill

the growing needs of higher education in the region. The College owes its existence to the

initiative and untiring efforts of its founding father and promoter Dr.Vizarath Rasool Khan.

Under his able guidance and dynamic leadership, the college has grown from strength to

strength and emerged as a premier Institution of higher learning in the state with

diversified Under Graduate Courses and number of restructured UG courses have been run

on self-financing basis. It is an exclusive college for girls with an intention to impart and

promote quality education to girls of different sections of the society. It has strength of

around 1200 students on its rolls. The college has completed two and half decades of

dedicated service to the society.

One of the Top Institutions in the Jurisdiction of Osmania University with 22 Gold Medals & several Distinctions. The Shadan Degree College for Women was granted permission by the Government of Andhra Pradesh vide G.O Rc. No.1640 dated 17/11/1988 and the Osmania University in the year 1988 and vide its letter No.547/A/1251/88/Acad, dated 24/11/1988. It is a minority Institution with a minority status certificate No. 077/1721/M&R/A2/99(M) dated 23/7/99.

The Principal, Dr. NASEEM AKHTAR joined the Shadan group of institutions in 1995. She

has established and headed the departments of Biochemistry and Microbiology both in

degree and post graduate colleges. She has excellent academic record with university 2nd

Rank in M.Sc Biochemistry from Andhra University and was selected for CSIR research

scholarship on the basis of National Eligibility Test , she was awarded Ph.D by Osmania

University for her work on “Metal Toxicity in Fungi: The Role of Cellwall in Metal

Detoxification and their Possible Application as Biosorbents for Metals.”

After her Ph.D she worked as Research Association in DST (Department of Science and

Technology) funded project (Metal Resistant Fungi) carried at Osmania University,

Hyderabad. She has research publication in national (2) and international (3) journals of

repute and 1 review article. She also has presented papers at various seminars and

conferences. She  has delivered lecture on Osteoporosis at international conference on “

Impact of Diseases and Social Issues Effecting Women and their amelioration.” December,

2010 at Hyderabad.

She is Vice President of Science Fair Academy Hyderabad. She gives talks regularly

to school going children on importance of taking up research oriented science projects.
